The agency said on Monday, Jan. 30 that the “MDOT MTA is saddened to learn of the recent tragic death of one of our contracted Mobility operators during their work shift.”

“This front-line operator served Baltimore residents by transporting the most vulnerable individuals to essential services and jobs,” MDOT MTA Senior Director of Communications and Marketing Veronica Battisti said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver’s family during this difficult time.”

Officials have not disclosed the nature of the “violent crime,” which is under investigation.

“The safety and well-being of our operators and all employees is our first priority and most important value,” Battisti continued. “Counseling services are available to employees who may need additional support to process this loss.”

The MDOT MTA Police are now working with the Baltimore City Police Department to investigate the violent crime.
